Cracking open a macadamia straight from the farm, or tasting a fruit you genuinely cannot name, is the kind of thing that makes the 25-kilometre drive south of the Queensland border worth every minute. Tropical Fruit World runs two-hour guided tours by tractor trailer, with tastings, animal feeding, a boat ride, and stops where staff explain exactly what you're eating and why. The café does solid lunch work, with the toasted jackfruit Reuben and Black Sapote cake drawing repeated mentions, and the fresh fruit ice cream is reportedly enormous. Skip the long blacks. The staff across the farm are consistently praised as knowledgeable and genuinely enthusiastic, and the experience holds up for both kids and adults. Book the full tour, come hungry, and leave room for something from the fruit stall on the way out.
A complete must do !! We first visited last year and just knew we’d have to come back again this year. The place is fantastic for all ages, but our little one loves it. Trying all of the new and exotic fruits, the tractor ride and a delicious cafe to refuel. All of the staff are extremely knowledgeable and welcoming. Wouldn’t hesitate to recommend to anyone.
We did the full tour with the pre tour tasting, boat ride and animal feeding. Everything was great, very kid friendly and definitely worth the money. The highlights were tasting edible flowers and fruits during the tour, plus the second stop where we tried bananas and cracked open macadamias. Such a fun experience. The only thing I’d change is spending more time on the actual farm tour rather than the boat and zoo, and having more tastings straight from the trees instead of at the tasting hall to get more of that farm feel. Overall, a great experience and I’d happily do it again.

Burleigh Heads
The checkout team at this compact Burleigh Metro will hold your forgotten coffee cup for three days. Well-stocked, calm, and staffed by people who actually know their regulars. Enter via the lane beside Oakberry Açai on Park Ave.

Currumbin Valley
A Currumbin Valley cafe with country-road ease and city-level coffee. The carrot cake is legendary for its size, the steak sandwich on sourdough earns genuine repeat visits, and the dessert counter will slow you down. Portions are generous, prices are fair, weekends are busy.

Had a great morning with the Grandie down at Tropical Fruit World - 25kms south of the QLD border at Duranbah in NSW. Did the full 2 hour tour involving a ride on a trailer pulled by a tractor starting with a great intro to unusual tropical fruits & tasting, then tractor farm tour, then farm animal feeding, a boat ride and finally another tractor ride. During the tour there was also a stop where we tried bananas and cracked open macadamias - a real fun experience for the kiddo who reckons he ate 29! Everything was great, very kid friendly and definitely worth the money. Could've done with a bit more playtime on the island for the kids The cafe's barista scored 0 out of 10 for our pre tour long blacks which we couldn't drink! But the food offerings at lunchtime were excellent - toasted jackfruit Reuben was delish as was the Black Sapote cake. The fresh fruit icecream was huuuge but superb! The fruit stall was reasonably priced & we walked away happy with some A Cha Chas & Momey Sapote.
Tropical Fruit Farm in Duranbah is an absolute delight, provided your idea of a good time includes tasting fruits you cannot pronounce and pretending, for a brief moment, that you are the sort of person who owns an orchard. The grounds are beautifully maintained, the air smells like someone whispered “vitamin C”, and the entire place radiates a calm that makes you forget e-mails exist. The guided tasting was a highlight. I learnt more about fruit in one afternoon than I did in the past. Every sample was fresh, flavourful, and served with just enough explanation to make you feel clever without turning it into a lecture. The staff clearly love what they do, and that enthusiasm rubs off on you very quickly. What I appreciated most was how family-friendly it felt. Spaces to explore, little corners for photos, and enough variety to keep both adults and children entertained without anyone asking, “Are we done yet?” It is the sort of experience that quietly sneaks into the “must-repeat” category. A wholehearted recommendation from me. Go with an open mind, an empty stomach, and the willingness to fall in love with fruit all over again. Tropical Fruit Farm delivers a cracking day out.
Tropical Fruit World is a must-visit. The fruit tastings are excellent, with a wide range of tropical fruits you won’t find in supermarkets, all explained clearly by knowledgeable staff. You really get an understanding of flavour, texture, and how each fruit is meant to be enjoyed. The café is just as impressive — fresh, well-made food, great smoothies and juices, and a strong focus on quality produce. There’s also plenty of fruit and local products to take home. Educational, relaxed, and genuinely delicious. Highly recommended. 🍍🌿
Varsity Lakes
Lake-facing and larger than it looks, Blackboard Varsity runs a tight ship at Varsity Lakes. The halloumi has its devotees, the 5:30am opens have their regulars, and the coffee art is taken seriously. Get in early; the carpark fills fast.
