At $4.80 a plate, the sushi train at Honba is one of the Gold Coast's better-kept open secrets. The cheese salmon roll and scallop aburi are the ones reviewers keep coming back for, along with the crispy salmon skins and karaage chicken that somehow stays juicy where other places dry it out. The room is small and fills fast, particularly at dinner, where a waitlist is the norm rather than the exception. No frills, no fuss: just a tablet for ordering, a train running beside you, and miso soup on the table inside two minutes. If you're after the Spicy Sweet Soy rice bowl, the chicken portion alone justifies the drive. Arrive early or expect to wait. Either way, it's worth it.
New favourite sushi spot and I’ll strongly consider driving from Brisbane weekly to get it. Our top recommendation is the Spicy Sweet Soy rice bowl. The amount of chicken is INSANE and all the gym goers would be satisfied. 15/10
Definitely one of the best sushi spots in all of Gold Coast. When you arrive and order your drinks, they’re on your table in under 30 seconds — a record! Your miso soup arrives in less than 2 minutes, and you have a train of delicious sushi running beside you, plus a tablet, and if you place an order, it arrives in under 5 minutes. Totally delicious, great service, fast, always clean, and very reasonably priced! Highly recommended.
Hands down the best sushi in QLD. Every time we're at Gold Coast, my partner and I always make it a point to eat at Sushi Honba — it's our non-negotiable. I’m honestly wishing they open a branch in Brisbane someday (PLS 🥺). I’ve wondered if I might just be overhyping it, but every friend we've brought there ends up loving it too. And it’s not just us — the place is always packed at dinner time, with a waitlist more often than not. That says something AND the 4.80 per plate is 💯 Our all-time favourites? The Aburi selection is unmatched: Wagyu Beef Cheese Salmon Roll Scallop Roll Ebi Nigiri For sides, don’t even think twice — get the Salmon Skin and Chicken Karaage. Crunchy, juicy, full of flavour. Absolutely worth it. So yeah, if you're anywhere near the Gold Coast and love sushi, Sushi Honba is a must. Still dreaming of the day we get one in Brissy 🍣🙏🏻

Mermaid Beach
Mermaid Plaza's car park runs on an app now, with the first hour free, and it's made this Gold Coast Highway Woolworths Metro a far more practical stop. Central enough for holiday-makers, quick enough for locals on a grocery run.

Robina
Waterside pub on the Robina lake with a terrace, cold taps, and a menu wide enough for any group. The portions are solid, the setting does the heavy lifting, and Tuesday quiz nights have built a loyal local crowd.

If you’re in Gold Coast and you truly love good sushi, Honba is a place you absolutely need to try 🍣✨ Honestly, I can say it’s some of the best sushi I’ve had in the entire area. 🫶 From the moment you arrive, you can tell it’s a simple, no-frills spot that focuses on what really matters: the food. The restaurant itself is small and cozy, which gives it a warm, welcoming vibe. It’s not a big, fancy venue — it’s more intimate and relaxed, which makes the experience feel authentic. That said, because the space is quite small, it fills up quickly, especially during peak hours. Reservations aren’t necessary, but I definitely recommend arriving early if you don’t want to wait for a table. Now, the most important part: the sushi. The rolls are absolutely delicious. Everything tastes incredibly fresh, well-prepared, and balanced. The rice is perfectly cooked, the fish is fresh, and the flavors really stand out. These aren’t the kind of rolls that fall apart or feel overloaded with rice — the proportions are just right. You can really tell that quality ingredients are being used, and that care goes into the preparation. Another big highlight is the pricing. Compared to many other sushi spots around Gold Coast, Honba offers very reasonable and accessible prices for the quality they deliver. It’s one of those rare places where you feel like you’re getting excellent value for your money. The portions are generous, and you leave feeling satisfied without feeling like you overspent. Perfect for a casual dinner, a quick sushi craving, or even a relaxed meal with friends. The service also deserves special mention. The staff is friendly, efficient, and genuinely welcoming. Even when the place gets busy, they maintain a positive attitude and keep things running smoothly. That kind of service really enhances the overall experience. Overall, Honba is a small and cozy spot with standout flavor and quality that truly makes it one of the best sushi experiences in Gold Coast. If you’re looking for fresh, delicious sushi at a great price, with warm service and a relaxed atmosphere, this place is definitely worth visiting. Just remember to arrive early — when something is this good, everyone wants a table 😉🍣
This lovely little sushi bar has become one of my favourites on the Coast. Food is always fresh, staff are busy but friendly and even when there's a wait, the line moves quickly! Our must try menu items are the sweet and spicy chicken bento or bowl, crispy salmon skins, karaage chicken (so succulnt and not dry like other places) and basically any sushi train sushi (cheese topped salmon and salmon with onion are stand outs)!! We love picking things off the menu or sushi train - makes the whole process very easy and $4.80 per plate makes it an affordable lunch option (hence why it's always popular, even on weekdays for lunch).
Burleigh Heads
Southern Californian-inspired cafe on the Gold Coast Highway with a strong aesthetic, solid chicken burger, and a dog-friendly policy that extends to snacks for the four-legged. The vibe is the draw, the food backs it up, and there's undercover parking below if you know to look for it.
