The Biscoff croissant alone is worth pulling off the Gold Coast Highway. Custard Canteen sits right at Tallebudgera Creek, in front of the Leisure Centre, and it's doing more than the location suggests. Pastries are made on site daily, the Portuguese tarts disappear fast, and the salted caramel milkshake has its own fan base. Coffee comes from Marvell Street in Byron Bay. The broader menu runs to burgers, fish and chips, and sausage rolls, with solid gluten-free bread options. Reviewers call the chips some of the best they've had. Service slows when it's busy, and a few items tip into overpriced territory, but the quality of the baked goods carries the room. Get there early for the pastries.
Only had time for a quick cuppa and a delish Portuguese tart. I should’ve ordered a few more to go as they’re divine! Will be back to try more of the menu as others orders looked so good.
I ordered biscoff croissant and it went beyond my expectations. It was filled with rich filling and was very satisfying! The sweetness and its flakiness just went perfectly. My friends ordered burgers and fish and chips. They looked and smelled so nice too. It was a perfect atmosphere except for the sudden heavy rain.
Everything here is just so good. But my favourite is their salted caramel milkshake and the sausage rolls

Mermaid Beach
Mermaid Plaza's car park runs on an app now, with the first hour free, and it's made this Gold Coast Highway Woolworths Metro a far more practical stop. Central enough for holiday-makers, quick enough for locals on a grocery run.

Burleigh Heads
A Burleigh fixture with a QHA award-winning sports bar and a beer garden built for long afternoons. The $25 steak burger and schooner special is the move. Solid pub fare, free parking, and family-friendly enough to bring the kids.

Twenty minutes from the coast, Currumbin Valley runs dark and quiet along a rainforest-fringed creek that most Gold Coast visitors never find. Rock pools, a café with tortoises in the creek out back, wildlife encounters, and enough walking to justify a long lunch on the way home. Here is how to spend a half-day or full day in one of the Hinterland's most rewarding pockets.
The humidity has broken, the valley mist lingers until mid-morning, and the hinterland is at its most atmospheric. This two-day itinerary for couples covers rainforest cafés, serious spa treatments, creek-side dinners, and a float tank session that resets everything. Autumn 2026 is the time to go. Here is exactly how to spend it.
Most visitors drive straight to the beach and miss everything else. The Gold Coast's southern suburbs and hinterland hold a different kind of destination: a pastry café by a creek, a wildlife park that beats the famous one, rock pools the tourists haven't found yet, and a heritage-village spa that locals guard quietly. Here is the list.
The hinterland is not just a couples escape. Wildlife encounters, rock pool swimming, trampoline parks, and family-friendly dining make it one of the Gold Coast's best days out for kids of any age. Here is how to plan it properly, in the right order, without spending the day in the car.
We liked the atmosphere and coffee. We tried double baked almond croissant it was good. Service was a bit slow but they were busy
Great spot and probably the best chips I’ve ever had! Great gluten-free bread and veg options! The bigger part of our company had the fish and chips which according to them was really great! Some items/drinks on the menu was a bit overpriced but on the whole a great place worth a visit!
Burleigh Heads
Southern Californian-inspired cafe on the Gold Coast Highway with a strong aesthetic, solid chicken burger, and a dog-friendly policy that extends to snacks for the four-legged. The vibe is the draw, the food backs it up, and there's undercover parking below if you know to look for it.
The Gold Coast Hinterland food scene has moved well past devonshire tea and a view. From a sushi train at $4.80 a plate in Burleigh Waters to a lobster roll over Currumbin Creek and a plant-forward menu sourced from organic valley growers, these are the restaurants worth planning a day around.
