Byron Bay · Restaurants & Cafes
(610 reviews)
Tucked into Banksia Drive on the quieter residential fringe of Byron, Otherside Cafe sits a little removed from the main strip crush. Without a trail of reviews to go on, it reads as a neighbourhood local rather than a destination play: the kind of place where regulars claim a table without checking the menu. Expect the standard Byron cafe format, good coffee, seasonal breakfast plates, and a room that probably does more for the people who live nearby than for visitors hunting the next feed. Worth a look if you're staying in the area and want something low-key over the chaos of the town centre. Go early, see what they're running that day, and judge for yourself.

What People Say
Food was yummy and it was clear the chef was considered with not only the food itself, but the order and timing in which it came out; something I rarely see in aus! We went in early for breaky and it was only us, but rapidly picked up over the next hour. Cute outdoor seating and fast service. We will come back
Best breakfast I’ve ever had, honestly. We came here several times during our holidays for brekkie and it was amazing every single time. The avo on toast was definitely my favorite, the summer tomato salsa they add on top makes it so much better than any other avo toast I’ve tried. 10/10. We only tried two different smoothies and both were incredibly good, but our favorite was “It Takes Two to Mango” Food and coffee were 10/10. I’ll definitely be coming back. The service was great as well, everyone was kind and friendly. The place is also very cute and not as crowded as other spots in Byron, which is a big plus. Loved the vibe. Favorite brekkie place in the area 💛
Absolutely incredible breakfast! The food is really good quality and the coffee is delicious. We met the owner and he was so nice, explained that their yummy toast is from an organic bakery inland. Avocado was so fresh and they are super accomodating. I wanted avocados on toast but no feta and salsa, they even put the olive oil and salt on the side. I’m quite particular about my food and often make sometimes complicated orders but they were super accomodating. We also had the breakfast burger, bacon and all ingredients were amazing. Been to a lot of cafes in Byron, this has to be my favourite. You pay a decent price but I can tell you it’s definitely worth it. Highly recommend if you’re in the area to stop by. They have small space to sit inside, large beautiful outdoor area some with shade and some with sun. Incredible scene to sit especially for breakfast.
Otherside is a little gem tucked into the Industrial neighborhood. From the moment you step inside, you can feel the thoughtful, welcoming energy that fills the space that makes you want to stay awhile. Everything here is made with care, from the simple yet deeply delicious menu by Erwan (the avocado toast with house chimichurri is a must), to the attentive and kind front of house team who make you feel instantly at home. Manu, the hands-on owner, brings so much heart to the café, and it truly shows. If you’re lucky enough to visit on a Saturday, don’t miss the pistachio tart and the live or DJ led tunes that bring the space to life. If you’re in Byron or just passing through, Otherside is well worth a visit.
Best coffee I had in Byron Bay. Definitely recommend the food here as our breakfast was very tasty. Great vibe and nice people. Must try ☀️
