Bilinga · Accommodation
(463 reviews)
Ten minutes on foot from Gold Coast Airport, this YHA earns its keep as a pre-dawn flight base rather than a destination in itself. The location is the whole point: Bilinga, not Coolangatta, sitting between the Pacific Highway and the airport car park. Inside, dorm beds and small private rooms with a single bed, desk, and lamp cover the basics. The communal kitchen is large and well-kept, and there's a pool for the afternoons when you have time to kill. Reviewers consistently praise the staff, with several calling them the property's strongest asset. The honest picture: facilities are ageing, air conditioning is absent, and the cold showers are a recurring complaint. Come for the convenience, not the comfort. Book a private room if you can, and set your alarm.

Staying at YHA Coolangatta feels like stepping into the calm, sun‑kissed side of the Gold Coast. The atmosphere is relaxed, the rooms are clean, and the whole place carries that easy coastal rhythm that makes you settle in straight away. The location is perfect: close to the beach, close to the airport, and close to Coolangatta’s cafés and surf breaks, but still quiet enough to sleep well. Morning walks, sunset swims, and everything in between are right at your doorstep. The staff are what make this hostel stand out. Ayla at the front desk is warm, welcoming, and gives one of the clearest orientations you’ll ever get. James on nights keeps everything running smoothly and brings a calm, friendly energy to the evenings. Fat Chats is the social heartbeat of the place, always ready with a laugh or a story that makes travellers feel at home. Sergio is the behind‑the‑scenes legend who keeps the rooms spotless and the landscaping looking sharp — you can feel his work everywhere. The pool area is a highlight, with palm trees, sun loungers, and that perfect Cooly sunshine. Bit cold during winter but great addition. The shared spaces are social without being chaotic, and the vibe stays respectful even when the hostel is full. Wifi is good and really cool pay it forward area to pick up things you might need. YHA Coolangatta is the kind of place you plan to stay for a few nights and end up extending because it just feels right. Great people, great energy, and a team that genuinely cares. It’s the kind of hostel you leave thinking, “Yeah… I’ll be back.”
Nice, clean hostel close to airport. It is on a busy highway so traffic noise is an issue. I was charged $250 a night for a tiny room with shared bathroom next to a crowded dormitory. The self locking bathroom doors bang loudly when closing. Not great value- - you can find better elsewhere

Canungra
Lorikeets at breakfast, ancient rainforest trails out the door, and a spa waiting when you get back. Two hours from Brisbane, O'Reilly's has anchored the Gold Coast hinterland for a century. The setting does the heavy lifting. Come for the birds and the Box Circuit hike.

Coolangatta
A council-run park with paperbark-shaded sites, reliably clean facilities, and staff who know your dog's name by day two. Food vans on-site most nights keep dinner easy. The beach is further than the name suggests, but for a longer Gold Coast stay with a caravan or cabin, it holds up.

Kitchen has old facility, pots and pans unhealthy and need to be changed. No waterfilter to fill up water. Prison cells in europe are better then these rooms. I was sleeping like in a hammocks bcs the mattress has been probably never changed.. no curtains for the bed and privacy (usually so cheap and powerful), rooms are bright like a football field at night. power plug doesn't work and no other ones in the room to charge st. over night.. bathroom were clean, stuff very friendly. Location is far away from everything without a car and between the highway and the airport. One of the worse hostels I stayed after 3 years traveling. Not recommended, only if you have to catch a flight next morning.
This is the WORST backpackers I have ever stayed in. I can’t get any sleep because of the near constant slamming of the doors. I don’t know why they wouldn’t fix the doors to be less disruptive… a bit of maintenance would go a long way. Or intervene when inconsiderate guests move around so abruptly. This accomodation has entirely ruined my trip due to sleep deprivation. There is never any time in the day or night where loud, startling bangs don’t prevent sleep. I’m having to leave early so I can get some sleep. Horrendous. If I could give it negative stars I would. AVOID!!!
Stayed here for a night and the place is really comfy. The area is clean and there are few activities that you can do in the hostel. Staffs are friendly and the beach is just minutes away . I’d stay here again if ever ill be travelling to Gold Coast again.
Beechmont QLD
Seventy-five hinterland acres, a chef-hatted restaurant called The Paddock, and a picnic under an old fig tree with Moët. Wallabies outside the cabin window are a genuine possibility. The staff, particularly Natalie at the front desk, are why guests keep coming back.
