One of the more affordable plates on Jonson Street, Light Years sits at the accessible end of Byron's dining spectrum without the usual trade-offs. The casual format suits the location: walk-in friendly, low-key, the kind of place that works for a quick lunch between beach and errands. Without a deep review trail to draw from, it's hard to single out a signature dish or a standout moment, but the price point alone earns it a look in a town where a bowl of pasta can quietly become a forty-dollar decision. If you're watching the budget but still want to eat well on the main strip, this is a reasonable starting point. Worth checking their current menu before you go.

What People Say
Ate lunch for 1 at light years and it’s a shame the service really let itself down as the food here is incredible! The kingfish ceviche was light and fresh (only criticism is too many toasted coconut shavings). The wagyu rendang was the best rendang I’ve tasted. The sauce was delicious and the meat was spoon tender, delightful. The service however… I was told that they didn’t do the banquet menu for solo bookings, the waiter then proceeded to explain the banquet menu and all the things that they wouldn’t serve me but wanted to tell me about… My starter wasn’t taken away until I asked for the bill after I had finished my main. There was no check in on my food, my canned coconut water came long after my starter despite being ordered as soon as I sat down. The restaurant was busy enough but by no means packed. That being said, the food is fantastic and I would absolutely come back, the service just needs some polishing…
Date night at Light Years in Byron Bay and it was delicious. We decided to get smaller dishes to share and they did forget our Miso Corn but we were so full from the other dishes. We will definitely return when we come to Byron Bay and highly recommend. Staff are friendly and easy access with a pram.
The food was good and fresh. The waiter was really nice. Salmon sashimi with truffle 8.5/10 Tuna tartare 8/10 Kingfish ceviche 7.5/10 Korean fried chicken Bao buns 8.5/10 Wagyu rump steak 9/10 Wagyu beef rendang 8/10
Good food but rubbish service and vibe. The food itself was nice but the pace of the dishes coming out was way off - we were waiting up to 20mins between plates - and the place was packed to the brim. There were too many tables shoved in and staff were running around dropping and picking up plates without offering actual service e.g. more drinks. Would not recommend or return to this branch unfortunately.
We had another incredible experience at Light Years Byron Bay. This is our second time visiting and it absolutely never disappoints. The service was outstanding – the staff were so friendly, attentive and made the whole experience feel really special. The food was amazing as always, full of flavour and beautifully presented. Everything we ordered was delicious. It’s definitely one of our favourite spots in Byron and we’ll be back again next time we visit! Highly recommend. 🌟🍜
