Jonson Street's go-to for a proper night out without the tourist-trap markup. The Northern sits at the centre of Byron's main strip and makes no apology for it, drawing a crowd that ranges from locals finishing a long week to visitors who've figured out where the town actually drinks. Live music, a solid bar programme, and enough room to move make it a reliable anchor for an evening that might end anywhere. The price point is reasonable by Byron standards, which matters more than it used to. No reviews to mine for specifics, so go in with open expectations and a willingness to see what's on. Check their schedule before you show up.
Haven’t been here for years and it hasn’t changed a bit thankfully. A classic Aussie pub with great vibes, cheap drinks and good food. Staff are awesome, cricket was on and the outside area is great for people watching. Def a must visit when in Byron Bay. Highly recommend this joint!
My review is limited to my experience of a few drinks whilst thoroughly enjoying the piano bar whilst visiting Byron Bay. Absolutely a highlight of our trip. Duelling pianists and the crowd singing along with every tinkle of the ivories. Such a great vibe and well controlled environment thanks to the staff.
I went there twice for the piano bar and it was Amazing. Such a fun environment. Drinks were great, and the environment was also incredible with everyone singing along with the pianists and you get to put in requests for songs.

Byron Bay
The birthplace of Pacific Ale, Stone & Wood's Byron taproom pours fresh from the tank inside the working brewery. Industrial setting, cold beer done right, and a crowd that spans Friday knock-offs to curious out-of-towners tracing the source of their favourite can.

Byron Bay
A Jonson Street pub that's been holding its ground while Byron reinvented itself around it. Cold beers, mixed crowd, no attitude. The kind of place where locals and visitors end up at the same bar stool without anyone making it weird.

Best bar experience in Australia! The atmosphere is insane and the talent of the pianists is unbeatable. I had such an incredible time- the atmosphere is beaming and the talent is undeniable. A must visit.
A friend and I went here for steak one evening a couple of weeks ago, she ordered medium rare, I ordered medium. After an hour long wait we were greeting with two steaks which were burnt beyond recognition. I notified a staff member that our meals were wrong, and we instructed to go back to our table and wait for the manager to come and inspect them. After a 15 minute wait in which the manager failed to materialise, we ate the steaks which were by this point cold. After this cold and calamitous culinary conundrum, I went back to the original staff member and notified him of the situation, and we were told that had we not eaten the steaks, we could have a refund or another meal. I told him that the only reason we ate them was because the elusive manager never appeared, and we’d already waited an hour and ten minutes for the food to arrive. He said that there was nothing he could do, and when I asked to speak to the manager he gave me a careless shrug and said that he didn’t know where he was, and that I could explore the venue and look for him myself if I wanted - a perfect solution. I told him I felt as though we were being treated poorly, and he said dismissively that there’s nothing more he can do for us. This was a shame as we frequent the Northern regularly for trivia night, and quite like the venue, however after this experience I’ll take my business to someplace that cares about its customers and can produce a somewhat edible meal. For a venue of this size and reputation, the quality and service were negligent and disappointing. A simple steak and basic customer service should not be an unreasonable expectation. Sadly, this experience has put me off returning, and I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone looking for a decent meal and some reasonable treatment in Byron.
Byron Bay
Uninterrupted views across Main Beach, cold beers on tap, and a beer garden that fills up fast on Friday afternoons. The Beach Hotel is Byron's reliable big-pub option: broad menu, mid-range prices, and a crowd that runs from post-surf families to long-session locals.
