Jonson Street's go-to for a proper night out without the tourist-trap markup. The Northern sits at the centre of Byron's main strip and makes no apology for it, drawing a crowd that ranges from locals finishing a long week to visitors who've figured out where the town actually drinks. Live music, a solid bar programme, and enough room to move make it a reliable anchor for an evening that might end anywhere. The price point is reasonable by Byron standards, which matters more than it used to. No reviews to mine for specifics, so go in with open expectations and a willingness to see what's on. Check their schedule before you show up.
Haven’t been here for years and it hasn’t changed a bit thankfully. A classic Aussie pub with great vibes, cheap drinks and good food. Staff are awesome, cricket was on and the outside area is great for people watching. Def a must visit when in Byron Bay. Highly recommend this joint!
This place is must!!!! From the Front Bar to the Piano bar... Wow, the Entertainment they have here is beyond amazing. So very talented. Happy hour everyday from 4pm to 6pm.
My review is limited to my experience of a few drinks whilst thoroughly enjoying the piano bar whilst visiting Byron Bay. Absolutely a highlight of our trip. Duelling pianists and the crowd singing along with every tinkle of the ivories. Such a great vibe and well controlled environment thanks to the staff.

Byron Bay
A bar on Jonson Street's main drag, Ember is positioned where Byron's nightlife actually happens. Central enough to anchor an evening or extend one. Best assessed on a quieter night when the strip isn't at full volume.

Byron Bay
One of the more affordable bars on Jonson Street, Loft sits above the main strip with a late-night crowd and unpretentious energy. If Byron's pricier cocktail scene isn't what you're after, this is a reasonable alternative in a central location.

Byron Bay
I’ve loved the piano bar every time I’ve come. 20$ cover fee but so worth it! Great vibes, must visit if you’re in Byron bay!
Piano Night (9pm everyday) I genuinely fell in love with two incredibly charismatic musicians, Bodhi Acton and Mitchell Dormer. They put on the best live show I've ever seen. The talent on display was almost tangible, not just technically brilliant, but endlessly playful, inventive, and full of joy. Every piece felt fresh, spontaneous, and completely captivating. They kept the audience laughing, engaged, and constantly surprised. It's more than a gig, it's an unforgettable experience that reminds you just how magical live music can be. Don’t forget to bring cash 💵 as you are welcome to tip them, and believe me, you will want to! Entry fee is 10$ unless you come before 8pm.
Oysters and cold drinks on a balcony above Lawson Street. This is Byron's raw bar in the most literal sense: elevated, unfussy, and well-positioned for watching the evening unfold below. Mid-range pricing makes it an easy yes for a pre-dinner drink that turns into two.
