Fisherman's Lookout
Byron Bay · Activities & Tours
(245 reviews)
The lighthouse road ends here, at a concrete platform that delivers one of the most unobstructed ocean views on the east coast. Fisherman's Lookout sits above the rocks at Byron Bay's eastern point, where the Pacific stretches wide and the humpback migration runs close to shore between June and November. There's nothing to buy and nothing to book. Bring binoculars for the whales, a jacket for the wind, and patience for the walk up from the main carpark. Locals tend to come at dawn before the Cape Byron walking track fills up, or late afternoon when the light turns the water copper. It's a place that earns its reputation simply by existing in the right spot.

What People Say
My favourite beach in Byron. There is paid parking super close by (keep an eye out for koalas up in the gum trees there!) We came here to watch the sunset and stayed for blue hour. There are some cool rocks and rock pools for little ones to explore, calm waves, bush turkeys and good vibes.
I don’t know why and how I didn’t come across more recommendations for this place, it’s truly a hidden gem! The beach is extremely beautiful and feels very underrated. Paid parking is just a short walk away, so it’s easy to access. I’ll never forget the experience of standing with my feet in the shallow waves while watching the sunset. The view during sunset is absolutely stunning, that’s when the real beauty of this place shines. If you’re visiting Cape Byron Lighthouse, make sure you don’t miss this beach. It’s incredibly beautiful and worth the stop.
Great and beautiful place to come and relax while waiting sunset. You can enjoy seeing the seawaves plus people enjoying surfing. There is parking nearby. Just have to walk a bit, you might get wet just to get here. Anyway, it was worth because of the view.
Best spot for sunset, you can climb up onto the rock at low tide and have fantastic views. Even from the beach it’s already beautiful. Came here every night on our stay, and you have to see it at least once if you’re here. Only downside is that it is paid parking :(
Limited carpark space, clean and calm atmosphere.
More Activities & Tours in Byron Bay

Byron Bay Ballooning
Byron Bay
Dawn flights over the Tweed Valley hinterland, with the Byron lighthouse visible on a clear morning and macadamia farms rolling out below. A champagne breakfast follows landing. The 5am pickup is non-negotiable, but the light at that hour is the whole point.

Cape Byron Kayaks
Byron Bay
Morning kayak tours launching from Clarkes Beach, with the Cape Byron headland as your landmark and dolphins as a genuine possibility. Accessible to beginners, priced in the middle of the Byron activities market. The lighthouse circuit is the one to book.

Nguthungulli Julian Rocks Nature Reserve
Byron Bay
A volcanic outcrop a kilometre off Main Beach, protected marine reserve status means the grey nurse sharks, leopard sharks, and turtles here treat divers like furniture. Access is via local dive operators. The northern shallows work well for snorkellers.

Three Sisters walking track (Broken Head)
Broken Head
A short rainforest-to-headland walk inside Broken Head Nature Reserve, with coastal views back toward Byron's lighthouse and almost none of the foot traffic that plagues the Cape Byron track. Go early, bring water, wear shoes you can trust on uneven ground.
