The lighthouse is visible from the hill, and that alone tells you something about the location. YHA Cape Byron sits at the top of town, close enough to the beach to walk but far enough from the main strip to sleep without earplugs. As a YHA property, expect the familiar formula: shared facilities, a social common area, a mix of dorm beds and private rooms, and the kind of crowd that's here to actually see the region rather than just the inside of a bar. It's budget-friendly by Byron standards, which is saying something. The hostel format suits solo travellers and backpackers well, and the YHA network membership brings additional perks. Without recent reviews to draw from, go in with sensible expectations and judge it on arrival.
Best hostel I’ve stayed in for a long time! Amazing location, spacious private rooms, clean facilities, towels provided, great kitchen and lovely pool area. Also lots of social areas to chill during the day/night. Friendly staff and we were given a day card on our last day so could come and go as we pleased with made us feel welcome and was a nice touch. Literally no faults!
I have been there in December 2025. You basically pay 50 euros a night for a very room small room with no space even for breathing. Wi-fi is terrible, it doesnt work at all. The make you download that stupid app to have a faster wi-fi but it doesnt work either. Terrible hostel.
The location is perfect a 5 minutes walk and you arrive at the beach. The rooms are clean and specious. The staff is extremely helpful and friendly. 10 out of 10 times would go there again.

Wategos Beach
The only property sitting directly on Wategos Beach, Raes trades on position and a long-running restaurant reputation. Mediterranean in feel, small in scale, and priced accordingly. If you're going to spend up in Byron, the address alone makes a reasonable argument.

Byron Bay
Forty-five acres of coastal wetland, freestanding villas pointed at the trees, and private beach access. Elements sits deliberately apart from Byron's centre. The distance from the main strip isn't a drawback; it's the whole idea.

Byron Bay attracts travellers who care how lightly they tread. But do the places they sleep actually share that value? From certified carbon-neutral rainforest properties to a holiday park at the foot of Cape Byron Lighthouse, here are the eco-friendly stays that earn the label, across every price point.
Byron Bay works best for families when you stop trying to do it the way you did it before kids. The right beach depends on the age of your children. The right timing depends on the activity. Here is the specific, honest guide to getting it right, from the calmest coves for toddlers to the sunrise kayak that actually lands with teenagers.
Three days is the right amount of time to stop performing a Byron Bay trip and actually have one. This itinerary covers the lighthouse walk, a kayak at dawn, the best dinner on the coast, and a day trip to Brunswick Heads, without turning the whole thing into a checklist. Here is how to use 72 hours well.
Byron Bay accommodation runs from a dorm bunk near the lighthouse to a freestanding villa on forty-five acres of coastal wetland. The choice shapes the whole trip. Here is the full spectrum, by budget tier, with suburb context and honest assessments of what you are actually paying for.
Stayed here in September and loved it. Nice and comfortable room and facilities and enjoyed taking part in the Pilates class.
We had a great stay at YHA Cape Byron! The location is absolutely perfect—right in the center and close to everything. The atmosphere was also a highlight; despite the impact of Cyclone Alfred, the vibe remained lively. Every evening, the common area was full of people hanging out before heading to bars like the Piano Bar. Unfortunately, because of the cyclone, there were no activities, which is understandable. However, one downside was the lack of staff presence. Even after the worst of the storm had passed and it was safe to move around, the reception was almost never staffed for several days. I often had to look for staff around the hostel to ask for things. The biggest issue was housekeeping—our trash bin wasn’t emptied for a whole week, and no cleaning was done at all, leading to quite a mess. That being said, the overall experience was still very solid. If housekeeping and staff presence improve, it would be an easy 5-star stay. Would still recommend it for the great location and atmosphere!
Byron Bay
A two-minute walk from the main beach, the Beach Hotel Resort sits at the calmer end of Jonson Street. Location is the main drawcard here. The lighthouse walk, Wategos, and the town centre are all within easy reach.
