Byron Bay · Accommodation
(560 reviews)
A short walk from the town centre and a block from the beach, Wake Up! Byron Bay sits on Childe Street in one of the better-positioned spots in town. As part of the Wake Up! hostel group, the property pitches itself at the social end of budget-to-mid accommodation, with the kind of setup that suits travellers who want to actually meet people rather than stare at a hotel ceiling. Expect communal spaces, a lively atmosphere, and the trade-off that comes with it: this is not the place for an early night. Childe Street itself is quieter than the main drag, which helps. No reviews to draw on yet, so go in with eyes open, but the location alone carries weight in Byron's crowded accommodation market.
A really great stay for our first ever hostel experience here! Really great facilities, soft beds, really friendly staff that were always there to support and help you! Free shuttle bus, free surfboard hire, bike hire available, an excellent pool, with bar, sauna and ice bath! Laundry facilities were good and fairly priced. Happy travellers were very informative about tours and excursions in the area too and managed to book my very first surf lesson here! Byron bay Itself was stunning, with fantastic coastal walk to the lighthouse! A perfect sunset view and a place filled with unbelievable food and drinks! The only requests to make this hostel experience even better would be: - A quiet social space, as sometimes it would get quite loud… eg a library room or quiet space with beanbags and a place to relax after a busy day - Night lights for the bathrooms as they woke me up every time someone went to the bathroom, so either a dimmed light switch or dimmed automatic lights past a certain time - Gym equipment would have been fantastic too! I train 4 times a day and the gyms here can be expensive… gyms are always a great addition All of these are minor asks for such a great stay though!
Great Hostel – Totally Recommend! I was really impressed with Wake Up! Byron Bay. The atmosphere was super relaxed, and the staff were friendly and helpful. There are plenty of free activities like yoga, Pilates, and a running club, plus direct beach access and a cute pool area. The kitchen was always clean, regularly maintained by the staff, and they offer bike rentals for just $4 an hour. There’s also a free shuttle into town, which was super convenient — though it’s only about a 20-minute walk or jog if you prefer. Overall, everything felt well organized, social, and clean. Definitely one of the best hostels I’ve stayed at in Australia!

Byron Bay
Forty-five acres of coastal wetland, freestanding villas pointed at the trees, and private beach access. Elements sits deliberately apart from Byron's centre. The distance from the main strip isn't a drawback; it's the whole idea.

Wategos Beach
The only property sitting directly on Wategos Beach, Raes trades on position and a long-running restaurant reputation. Mediterranean in feel, small in scale, and priced accordingly. If you're going to spend up in Byron, the address alone makes a reasonable argument.

Amazing hostel that feels a bit like a hotel, having a sauna, icebath and pool. The kitchen is one of the best hostel kitchens I've ever experienced with plenty of good cooking equipment as well as always clean surfaces and a nice and open design. It's a good place to stay for a while and chill. Though it is bit far out of the city, there's a shuttle from the hostel that is driving frequently. Beachvolleyball court right in front of the hostel is another Pluspoint
I had an amazing stay at Wake Up Byron Bay — definitely the best hostel I’ve experienced in Australia so far! The facilities are fantastic: there’s a pool, sauna, and even a bar with snacks available by the pool, which makes it really easy to relax and enjoy your time there. There’s also a café just 50 meters away and a restaurant on-site, so food options are super convenient. The rooms are spacious, clean, and equipped with air conditioning, and the beds are really comfortable — perfect after a long day out. One of the highlights is the huge kitchen, which is great if you want to cook your own meals without feeling cramped. The overall vibe of the place is awesome, very social and welcoming. The staff were friendly and helpful throughout my stay. They also provide a shuttle service into town, which is really handy. The location is good — right in front of the beach, which is a huge plus — but keep in mind you’ll need to walk a bit if you’re heading back from town. Overall, a great place to stay if you’re visiting Byron Bay. I would definitely come back!
Feels more like a resort than a hostel, spacious rooms and very social people around. The staff is very friendly and all the facilities are really clean. Pool, sauna and ice bath are great. Negatives: you cannot have your own drinks at the pool, it's 30 min from the city.
Broken Head
Between Broken Head Nature Reserve and one of the region's quietest surf beaches, this holiday park trades Byron's main drag for banksia scrub and rock pools. Powered sites, unpowered sites, and cabin options. The kind of place regulars rebook before they've even packed up.
