YHA Byron Bay

Byron Bay · Accommodation

4.3/5

(543 reviews)

A short walk from the town centre and a few minutes from the beach, YHA Byron Bay sits on Carlyle Street in one of the better-positioned budget spots in town. As part of the YHA network, it caters to the backpacker and budget-conscious traveller crowd, with the kind of communal setup that makes it easy to meet people passing through. Expect shared facilities, a social common area, and the general hum of a hostel that sees a lot of foot traffic. Rooms range from dorms to private options, which gives it flexibility for solo travellers and couples alike. Byron's accommodation prices run high across the board, and the YHA sits at the more accessible end of that spectrum. Book well ahead during summer and school holidays. This is a town that fills up fast.

I absolutely loved my stay at YHA Byron Bay! This place really feels like a proper holiday. It’s easily the best hostel I’ve been to so far. The facilities are top-notch: everything is super clean, the beds are really comfortable, and I loved that they have privacy curtains on the beds. There were also plenty of toilets and showers, so I never had to wait. The pool area is perfect for chilling out after a day at the beach. The location is unbeatable – only about a 5-minute walk from the bus interchange and very close to the beach and all the shops. Also, a huge shoutout to the staff; they are incredibly friendly and helpful. The only tiny thing that could be improved: it would be great if you could open the windows to let some fresh air into the rooms. In our room, they were locked/fixed, and being able to ventilate a bit would have been nice. Apart from that, everything was spot on)! I can highly recommend this place to anyone visiting Byron. I'll definitely be back!

Fine hostel with clean facilities. That’s it. Nice pool as well, staff is friendly. But all and all it was pretty boring. Quiet, not a real common area, people were mostly absorbed in there own world. Rooms were fine but not a lot of space

One of the best hostels I’ve stayed at since I got to Australia (1 month traveling) 🤩 Super comfy bed with a power outlet and phone holder right next to it such a bonus compared to so many other hostels! The place is super quiet and really well located (about 10 min from the Greyhound stop). Rooms are spotless, with individual lockers so handy to keep your stuff organized and not all over the floor. Finally, clean and well-maintained bathrooms !!!! Makes such a difference compared to so many other places! The kitchen is awesome spacious, well equipped (gas stoves, microwaves, kettles, etc.), and everyone can cook without getting in each other’s way. PS: there’s a cold-water fountain super handy ! First time I’ve seen that in a hostel 😄

Very disappointing experience – not worth the price We stayed at YHA Byron Bay in a private room and paid AUD 200 for one night, which is completely unjustified given the experience. The private rooms are surrounded by common areas, which were extremely noisy until very late at night. Despite booking a private room specifically to rest, it was impossible to sleep due to constant noise, conversations, and general activity right outside the room. (406) On top of that, the air conditioning was not working, making the room uncomfortable and adding to a very poor night overall. Between the heat and the noise, we literally did not sleep at all. For a hostel that charges this price for a private room, we expected basic comfort, proper sound insulation, and functional amenities. None of these were met. We are very disappointed and feel that this stay did not reflect the standards nor the pricing of YHA. We hope management takes this feedback seriously and considers a gesture or compensation, as this experience was far from acceptable.
