The Moreton Bay bug roll has its own reputation on the Gold Coast, and it earns every bit of it. Rick Shores sits right on Burleigh Heads beach, open-windowed and facing the water, which makes a sunset booking one of the better decisions you can make on the Gold Coast. The menu runs Pan-Asian, with housemade roti built for mopping up coconut prawn curry, salmon spring rolls with avocado cream, and Phoenix Wagyu in truffle honey sauce. A chef's hat on the wall, $90 set menu at lunch, and floor staff who actually know the food. Prices sit firmly in the expensive bracket, but multiple reviewers report leaving too full for dinner. Walk-ins are welcome, though a window seat at sunset is a different story. Book for that.
We went to Rick Shores for an early dinner with a group of four and had a really great experience. The location is stunning right on the beach and the overall vibe is relaxed but still feels special. Service was a standout for us. Our server was excellent and guided us really well with ordering, especially around portion sizes, which made a big difference. We ordered a mix of dishes including cured king salmon sashimi, lobster prawn dumplings, Moreton Bay bug roll, garage chicken, and wagyu sirloin, along with a few Long Island iced teas. Everything was fresh, flavourful, and came out at a good pace. What we appreciated most was that the recommendations were spot on we had just the right amount of food, nothing went to waste, and everyone left happy. Overall, great food, great service, and an amazing setting. Would definitely come back.
From Canada - This place changed what a 5 star experience looks like in my eyes. Truly the best meal, experience and atmosphere. My wife and I went with the pricier set course paired with some cocktails and it truly is worth it. The flavours on the proteins were incredible and every dish was unique and delicious. My wife’s dietary restrictions (pescatarian) were able to be worked around for the set menu as well. The views from our table (25) were spectacular and Talon our server was top notch. If you’re in the Gold Coast area this is a can’t miss spot!

Burleigh Heads
A weatherboard café with a garden courtyard that draws Gold Coast crowds for good reason. The Dubai chocolate French toast is the order everyone's photographing, but the jam doughnut and Benny bagel are the real regulars' picks. Fast service, generous portions, and baked goods made in-house.

Burleigh Heads
The almond croissant and coffee mont blanc have their own fan base at this Burleigh Heads walk-in bakery. The pastry cabinet alone is worth the detour. Arrive early on weekends, skip the risotto, and let the queue be your quality signal.

Rick Shores is an amazing restaurant that really has it all. The food is delicious, the staff are so friendly and the view is astonishing. We were fortunate enough to have a beach front view that felt like you were looking at a postcard! Our waitress Elizabeth was a breath of fresh air that added so much to our experience. She was very personable, had a great knowledgeable of the menu and made excellent recommendations about the food and activities in the area as well. You are lucky to have her. The food was amazing and we loved the flavours and the creativity. The salmon spring rolls were an unexpected highlight, with the avocado cream pairing just delightful. The super light housemade roti is an absolute must to soak up the sauce from one of their delicious curries. We had the coconut prawn curry and it was divine. The signature Moreton Bay bug rolls are delicious as they look, and the Phoenix Wagyu in the truffle honey sauce is a must try. A beautiful location with amazing food and staff. Well done Rick Shores, thank you for a wonderful experience that we won't forget.
The food is soooooo mid, we ordered a medium rare steak ($145!!) came out medium well nearly well done, chewy, dry, too salty. The wok fried veggies, uhhh how about wok burnt veggies, big nono. The bug roll is fine, just fine. Service excellent tho. If u came here for the vibe and view, sure, go for it, get a drink, maybe some snacks. If you’re hoping for a proper meal, you ain’t getting any, turn around.
Wasn’t sure what to expect for an asian fusion restaurant but was pleasantly surprised. The view is a given but thought that each dish was carefully crafted and had a multi-dimensional layer of taste to it. It truly belongs in a different tier and the one chef’s hat is well deserved. Our server, Adam was attentive, friendly and made everyone feel comfortable. A must visit if you are on the Gold Coast.
Chinderah
Open around the clock at the Tweed Valley Way junction, this Ampol Foodary is the practical stop between Byron and the Gold Coast. Boost Juice, hot coffee, and convenience store staples. Useful when almost nothing else is.
