Main Beach is where most Byron visitors first meet the ocean on a board, and Let's Go Surfing has been the operation making that happen for a long time. Lessons run from the sand at Byron's most accessible break, which is forgiving enough for beginners and consistent enough to actually get people to their feet. Group lessons keep the price reasonable at this level, and instructors work the water rather than watching from shore. The vibe is social and high-energy, which suits the location. Without recent reviews to draw on, it's hard to call standout instructors by name, but the school's longevity and Main Beach positioning speak for themselves. If you're after a quieter, more private session, ask about smaller group options when you book.
I put my two sons (17 & 14) in for a group lesson. Excellent experience! Lovely and helpful instructors with a relaxed and fun vibe. Very short walk from the shop to the main beach. Both the boys got up and riding small waves within an hour.
We had a fantastic surfing lesson experience with Byron. He was very informative and the lesson was fun. Booking process was easy and the team were friendly and accommodating. Highly recommend booking your lesson with these guys, we plan to come back for sure!!
Luke was amazing at helping our kids (aged 7, 10, 12 and 14) feel comfortable and become competent in surfing the conditions at Byron. Thank you for your patience and enthusiasm

Byron Bay
Dawn flights over the Tweed Valley hinterland, with the Byron lighthouse visible on a clear morning and macadamia farms rolling out below. A champagne breakfast follows landing. The 5am pickup is non-negotiable, but the light at that hour is the whole point.

Byron Bay
Morning kayak tours launching from Clarkes Beach, with the Cape Byron headland as your landmark and dolphins as a genuine possibility. Accessible to beginners, priced in the middle of the Byron activities market. The lighthouse circuit is the one to book.

It was an awesome experience! We first got a short introduction to the basics and important safety information, and then we jumped right in. It was incredibly fun and we can definitely recommend it. Big thanks to Fred and Guido! 🙌🏄♂️
Couldn’t recommend this more if you’re wanting to start out surfing in Byron. We had Sam as our instructor and we all made so much progress in the lesson. I was basically a brand new beginner at the start of this session and he had me paddling into and catching a wave by myself by the end of it. Sam started out by getting to know all our surf levels and individual goals of the session and he tailored the lesson for each person based on our experience and goals. At one point I asked to stop and just watch the waves and get some help understanding how to read them and Sam explained what to be looking for and how to choose the right wave. Best lesson, best instructor, definitely book in.
New Brighton
A coastal heath track on the northern headland above New Brighton, with views stretching south to Cape Byron and west to the ranges. No entry fee, no crowds. Go on a weekday morning and you'll likely have the headland to yourself.
